Department of Energy's Builders Challenge
The U.S. Department of Energy has posed a challenge to the homebuilding industry – to build 220,000 high performance homes by 2012. The initiative is called the Builders Challenge, and homes that qualify must meet or exceed a score of 70 on the EnergySmart Home Scale (E-Scale). The E-Scale is a measurement that allows homebuyers to easily compare the performance of a particular home with that of others.
Athena Custom Homes is proud to participate in the Department of Energy’s Builders Challenge program. By participating in the program, Athena Custom Homes has committed to building homes that meet or exceed the program’s energy efficiency requirements. Compliance is measured through stringent and measurable performance guidelines and verified through a 3rd party.
Athena Custom Homes was the first builder in Rhode Island to sign up for the Builders Challenge when it was launched earlier this year, and as of September 2008 is the only builder in Rhode Island signed up.
